Armory Show, NYC

Last night was the private opening of the Armory Show in New York City.  This show is similar to Basel and brings a lot of galaries from around the world to show and hopefully sell some contemporary art.  Pharrell’s gallerist(Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin ) has a booth, if you are in NYC between today through Sunday(March 8th) stop by and check it out.  Here are a few example of some of the art on display.

Seen at the Emmanuel Perrotin Galerie booth, Frames by Kolkoz:

OK. Tree legs needs to 1.) trim the bushiness. 2) Do some theigh exercises, calf raises and abdominal/oblique twists. For real though, I like what the piece symbolizes – life, (tree of life) the womb, nature – in my opinion. It’s my favorite, that’s why I cracked jokes. The gold stuff at the top is ornately simple, as oxymoronically dichotomous as that is. I don’t love it, but it reminds me a bit of Jeff Koons work with gold – Michael Jackson and Bubbles.

Could you imagine how much you’d freak out if you saw those two tree people walking toward you on the street? I love those colors on those pieces. I really love the wire bathroom (simple, clean) and the Skanner Darkly-esque lady on the teal background – I like the oval-ness. The most intriquing one for me is Miss Scissorhands. That b!tch is scary but cool. KAWS’ head is worth 10k. The sculptures of his head I mean. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I did ask at the gallery here in LA. Oddly, there was a blue head chillin on the side of it’s face on the floor there. No mount or stand or anything, like the other heads of various colors. There was a sign that read, “Please do not touch”. I wondered WHY – maybe KAWS put it on the floor and the gallery wanted to leave it untouched – b/c everything else was so “perfect” surrounding it? Was kinda weird.. I think it’s cool to add a slice of imperfection to things here and there. If anyone is annoyed with my loooong entries, just let me know so I can politely write more. ;-) <3
