Another really nice ad, this time from Barclays Bank directed by Nicolai Fuglsig and produced by Venables Bell & Partners.

I love the illusions created. The concept is executed very well.

This ad targets males – upper class to affluent market. Moves like a long-form typical bank ad with a little style. Interesting way to tout the bank’s personal customer experience opposed to research, trends and data during these “strange times”. The word “recession” seems to be operative in everyone’s sentences lately…The cool thing about this is it reveals the same conceptual approach as a film (I know it’s an ad) like “28 Days Later” or “I Am Legend”, where the city is in ruin, decay, desolate, barren, unrelatable or unfriendly… It’s funny that they drew this parallel to the world’s current financial situation. What if “business” got even faker than it is today? SCARY…The old ways of doing business are definitely over. After our current global economic situation, I doubt we’ll ever get back to the days of old. Change is in the air, for better or for worse. Thanks for posting this stuff you guys!

Or maybe dude was simply drunk quietly… I mean, he WAS bumping into to sh!t AND just left a bar…. ;-) I’d be drinking too if all those scary plastic muthaf@ckas were everywhere.

    I’m just sayin’.

    *I can’t even lie*

^ re:Schoolin Volkswagen ads are always sick – leading the auto industry in effectiveness. I’m a victim of VW ads (my Jetta is bangin’) and I like German and Swedish cars.

RE: JuJu~bee – Thanks for the shout. ;-) Glad someone understands my language. Totally feel you on the “crickets” and hording/gripping our $$$ with white knuckles. Mutual funds begin to lose so we cash them out… I wonder when I’ll trust that I will have some gain with a Fidelity or JP Morgan again. I trust “under the mattress” for savings more. ;-) Wow, banks are really a tough sell these days. Kind of like cars. Do what you want with the advertising GM, but will that really urge the consumer to embrace your brand right now?
