Japanese Manhole Covers
We never noticed these in Japan but apparently these manhole covers were created starting in the 80′s as part of a government public art project. We’ll make sure to start looking down next time! Hit the jump for more pics.

New Contest
First person to tell us the name of this item and it’s purpose will win a nice prize. Good luck!
Update: The winner is Lowry. It is called the Antikythera mecahnism. It was found on the site of a Roman shipwreck dating back to 65 BC. It was rebuilt after many years of hard work by using x-rays and hi-resolution surface scans(see the original Antikythera after the jump). “It is a very accurate device for measuring the movement of astronomical bodies, such as the sun and moon through the phases of the zodiac. The device also allows for the precise prediction of eclipses and accounts for the first lunar anomaly, which is an irregularity in the orbit of the moon.” More info after the jump…

Split Ring Key
This is one of those items that make you realize we still have a lot more things to invent. It seems so obvious and yet it took this long for someone to come up with this. The Split Ring Key(order blanks) is designed by Scott Amron.

Audi Centenary Sculpture by Gerry Judah
Nice way to celebrate your history. Audi has really been doing some great stuff lately. Here they commissioned Gerry Judah to create this sculpture which measures just over 100 feet and weighs 44 tons. The sculpture features 2 classic Audi sport cars, the vintage legendary 1937 Auto Union Streamliner and the more recent R8 V10.
