Tennis Hu Release Party Recap

In celebration of the release of the Tennis Hu shoes—Pharrell’s first signature shoe with adidas—we transformed the BBC NYC flagship store into a Tennis Hu themed space for a launch party. Decked with adidas and BBC branded merch, the store also featured a custom-made HU sneaker display structure with glowing green and yellow lighting, illuminating the new shoes. Inspired by the adidas Stan Smith silhouette, Pharrell’s Tennis Hu is essentially a modernized tennis shoe, featuring flexible primeknit, a lightweight EVA midsole, and a built-in lacing system.

Special guests included Stretch Armstrong, Smoke DZA, Kirk Knight, Kerwin Frost and Luka Sabbat.

We also debuted our BBC NYC exclusive Ace and Court tees in celebration of the Tennis Hu launch, that are now available in store at 7 Mercer and online here.

We’d like to give a huge thanks to adidas for sponsoring the event! Click the jump for recap pics of the event.

adidas Shoe Design with a Rhythm Composer Built In

Marketing and creative agency, Neely & Daughters has created a custom concept/prototype for MIadidas—a customizable adidas shoe line—incorporating breakdance culture and the infamous Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer. The Roland TR-808 is a drum machine responsible for a plethora hits, from the origins of hip-hop in the 1980s to its current status as the foundation of trap music. Kanye West even created and dedicated an entire album to beat machine (808s and Heartbreaks).

Not only is the customized sneaker design inspired by the TR-808, but it can actually make beats. Outfitted with tempo control and a start/stop button, there are also six pre-programmed settings to give a budding producer their start. Additionally, the shoe has a speaker, USB port, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth built-in.

Currently, there are no plans to bring the Neely Air into production. Click the jump for images of the Neely & Daughters customized adidas Mi sneaker.

Retweet or repost with your thoughts on the concept.

Human Pantone Project

Brazilian photographer, Angelica Dass, is on a mission to capture every skin tone in the world for her Human Pantone Project aka HUMANÆ. Pantone is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems, and most known for their Pantone Color Matching System.

Once Angelica takes a stunning raw photo of a volunteer, she carefully matches the background with the exact same color code as an 11-pixel portion of the model’s face. The project aims to expand the definition of diversity and to shed light on how much skin tone differs from person to person. More importantly, Dass uses the codified Pantone system because it “dilutes the false preeminence of some races over others based on skin color or social condition.”

The project began in early 2016 and has no real end date since Dass wants to capture as much as she possibly can—salute. Hit the jump to check out Dass’ work.

NASA Builds Inflatable Greenhouse in Space

NASA is preparing for life on Mars as we speak. For years, the scientists at NASA have been experimenting with sustainable life in space—specifically Mars—and how to grow crops that will sustain human life while being away from Earth.

Recently, NASA scientists and agriculture researchers have designed an 18 by 7 foot inflatable greenhouse that can grow the greens we need deep in space. The prototype greenhouse will be used not only to grow food, but to revitalize air, recycle water and waste. In fact, the carbon dioxide exhaled by astronauts will be used by the plants to go through photosynthesis and produce oxygen. The process is called a bioregenerative life support system.
