Empower & Inspire: A Conversation with Women in Streetwear

In celebration of Women's International Day, Billionaire Girls Club hosted notable female figures in the streetwear industry for Empower & Inspire: A Conversation with Women in Streetwear. The commemorative event featured a panel of women carving out unique spaces within a notoriously male-dominated industry.

Paying tribute to the contribution and impact women have made in streetwear, the conversation highlighted achievements made despite adversity faced by each one of the panelists.

Now observed internationally, Women's Day was first celebrated in 1909, and it wasn't until 1975 that the first Women's March took place and it was dubbed an international holiday by the United Nations on March 8th of every year.

To celebrate the day of female homage, BGC brought together leading women in brands and media to speak with the young women of the LES Girls Club, a safe haven and creative center for high school age girls offering programs in fashion, S.T.E.M, entrepreneurship and more; and Through Our Lens Inc., a non-profit organization serving young girls that are pursuing education and careers in photography and videography.

Billionaire Girls Club had the pleasure of hosting VA$HTIE, a long-time influence in the streetwear industry and now a DJ and creative consultant; Joy Yoon, an author and Studio Director of Brooklyn’s Farm and Advanced Concepts at Adidas; Karizza Sanchez, Director of Content Strategy at Complex Networks; Olivia Anthony, CEO and founder of LIV Streetwear; Angela Chavez, the Operations Manager at OVO Clothing; and our moderator, Miss Info, Style Director at Stadium Goods, and a long-time contributor to the hip-hop culture and media for almost two decades.

The conversation—a casual interaction between women in power— provided the audience with tantalizing anecdotes and tips from facing parents that did not believe in their dreams, breaking through glass ceilings and solidifying a positive imprint within their respective fields.

The night was capped with a networking mixer featuring drinks by Bartenura Blue, delicious bites from Chef Nakai, and for a special treat, guests received goodie bags filled with Pharrell's latest book A Fish Doesn't Know It's Wet, a Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum pass, one free webinar code on ladiesgetpaid.com, a commemorative Empower and Inspire t-shirt, and more.

And a special thank you to TWIGMITT, Cooper Hewitt, Ladies Get Paid and Bartenura Blue for making this inspirational night come to life!
