Smino & Billionaire Boys Club Take a Trip with "Martian" Luther King

We teamed up with Smino for a special Black History Month video treatment that reimagines today's society through Smino's creative lens.

Releasing on the heels of Smino's "MLK Dr" animated music video—where we see "Martian" Luther King come down to Earth only to find unfavorable conditions for the Black community—the continued treatment made with Billionaire Boys Club features the two characters in a parallel universe where Martin Luther King's work resulted in an ideal environment for the Black diaspora.

Airy funkified production punctuated by a soulful strut and rich beat-craft simmers beneath his unpredictable vocal delivery. The track culminates on an out-of-this-world crescendo that immediately captivates with warbling wonder. In the accompanying animated music video, he takes a cruise in a classic car down Martin Luther King Blvd. to pick up none other than an otherworldly "Martian" Luther King, Jr.

“I was riding down MLK DR and saw a Martian who needed some help. I showed him ‘round, then he flew me around his...," croons Smino.

The symbolism of a thriving Black family unit and Smino's favorite Black-owned businesses are seen throughout the video, animated by Oliver Fredericksen. The journey ends with Smino and the all-seeing "Martian" LK heading into a futuristic Billionaire Boys Club universe—a nod to more potential collaborative activity.

The video was Creatively Directed by Brick & Smino, and the animation by Oliver Fredericksen (Instagram: @ollieloko).
