Year of the Dog Capsule

Last week, we released the BBC ICECREAM Year of the Dog Capsule, in celebration of the Chinese Lunar Year. The capsule features the infamous Running Dog in a red and gold colorway—the colors of China and represent good fortune, happiness and wealth. The capsule includes classic pullover hoodie and short sleeve t-shirt silhouettes in white, black and grey color ways, and feature the words “Year of the” printed above the OG ICECREAM Running Dog graphic.

The dog is one of the twelve animal Chinese zodiac signs in relation to the Chinese calendar, including the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig.

Each year, the animal is defined by one of the five elements: metal, wood, fire, and earth, which give the presiding animal meaning. The dog is defined by the earth element.
According to Chinese Astrology, people take on the personality of the animal that is associated with that year. For the year of the dog, people born in 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, and now, 2018, will embody the characteristics of loyalty, patience, and reliability. And, because it an earth dog year, those born in the years mentioned will also experience being communicative and responsible.

Celebratory traditions tend to vary across China, but the main practices are spring cleaning leading up to the New Year, enjoying dinner with family on New Years eve, decorating the streets with red items like lanterns, fireworks at midnight and giving money in lucky red envelopes on New Years Day.

We wish you a happy Lunar Year! The Year of the Dog capsule is now available at our NYC, EU, and JP Flagships and websites.
